April 20, 1922 – February 7, 2015

George died peacefully in Victoria, BC with his children by his side. A Victoria native, he was predeceased by his sister, Jean; first wife, Anne and second wife, Gillian. He was much loved and will be sorely missed by sister, Nancy; daughter, Susan; son, Andrew; grandchildren, Stacey, Clea (Mike), and Nathan; great granddaughters, Marielle, Justine, Aislen and Elise. He will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and friends in both Canada and England.

George joined the Royal Canadian Navy during WW2 and was a RCNVR Medic on Naval Escort vessels crossing the Atlantic. Most of his working life was spent in sales. He was a member of the Victoria Gyro Club and had a lifelong interest in cars, the newer the better.

Blessed with a wonderful sense of humour and a generous, thoughtful nature, George was always there to help others. He held strong opinions and wasn’t afraid to “swim against the tide”. Independent until the end, he was truly one of a kind.

No service by his request, George is now home with his Heavenly Father. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

George was a wonderful chap who was always bright & forthcoming on any topic of the day — we talked on many occasions and I must say he is the only person I have known who may have been more conservative than myself —- he will be missed — Blessings to the family & especially to Andrew who made the bubble wrap entrance piece in our office that Michael Burr was so proud of—-
George always made time to stop in & pass the time with us.
Again here’s a toast to really a wonderful man, GEORGE BARR
