    Dear Helen and Deborah,

I am so shocked to learn of Gary’s death. On reading the tributes, I deduce that he has been very brave in the face of suffering and adversity. As we have lost contact for many years, my memories of him are as a wee child. Deborah, of course being a friend of Fionas, was often on a play date at our house. I had no idea that Jim left you this year. I am truly sorry you have had such a sorrowful time. I too believe they are reunited, and enjoying great peace. It is you (the family) Deborah and Gary’s who will be reeling from the void and pain. I cannot imagine what it feels like to lose a child, and I know it’s not the first!! From the wonderful tributes I have read, you must take some solace in the knowledge that so many people held your son in high regard and great affection and also share your grief. My daughters join me in sending our very very sincere condolences. God Bless. Denise Kilner.

We miss you everyday Gary. There’s a huge space where your laugh and comments used to fill the room. I miss everything having you as a friend meant. Thank you for being my “big brother” for 18 years. Thank you for being the best godfather my son could hope for. Thank you for fighting as hard as you did and for never giving up so that we got more time with you. We created fantastic memories. Thank you for sending us the perfect sign that you are watching over us now. We love you.

The news that Gary has passed away came as true shock and a deep sadness to us. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel for Gary and the loved ones he’s left behind. I (Lilo) have had the privilege to be Gary and Jo-Anne’s wedding photographer, and as result, I came to know Gary a great deal. The memories I have about Gary are truly a terrific and compassionate human being who loved life, respected others and passionately loved his then girl friend Jo-Aanne. Gary will always be in our memories, Lilo (wedding photographer).

Deb and Scott, Joanne and Helen,

We are so saddened by the news of Gary’s passing. I remember our conversations at the rec centre with fondness; he was so positive, so vibrant, so determined…. so loved by his family.
Sending you all so much love during this very difficult time.

  • Debbie Adams

My heart is heavy with sadness for us as you are no longer with us. You truly fought this disease with such strength, surgery after surgery, treatment after treatment. To say you were brave is an understatement, I am so proud of you Gary. I only wished we could have made you better and kept you with us. I know you could hear all of us around you the evening you passed, you found what little strength you had left in you to let us know that you knew we were there. Amanda and Kendyll are so sad, and confused, but they are both so glad you woke briefly and waved to them❤️, thank you.

I hope you have found dad and are in that place your dreams took you to while you slept in hospital. You told me you were dreaming of walking, and that you were no longer sick. It’s sounds beautiful, and for your sake I am glad you are free.

We will miss you more that we can say.

  • Anne Graves

    Kindest regards,
