May 13, 1955 – December 6, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Gary Joseph Gallant, at the age of 59, with his children by his side. Predeceased by his mother, Lois, in 1994 and his father, Edgar, in 2010, Gary is survived by his two beautiful children: Sadie (20) and Kurt (19).  Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Gary at the age of nineteen, decided to travel west to seek adventure. Soon after arriving in Victoria, Gary began his life long career at Island Farms Dairy. Gary had an incredible love for sports and the outdoors, especially camping. He was known for his jovial personality, kind heart and generosity to all. Gary was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan and enjoyed playing recreational hockey for many years. He was extremely proud of his children and wouldn’t hesitate to share their many achievements with others. We will promise to move forward, carrying him forever in our hearts. We take comfort in knowing that his long and difficult battle is now over and he is finally at peace. The family would like to thank the caring staff at VGH (ICU) for their compassion and support given during this difficult time.

A Memorial Service will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 19, 2014.  In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Our Place Society.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My condolences to Gary’s family. I knew Gary before Jocelyn and he were married. I emceed their wedding. For whatever reasons, our friendship waned over the years and I was hoping for a reconciliation. I wish I had tried. Gary was a wonderful, giving and loyal friend. I will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing, although it has been a long time since I have seen Gary , our hockey history goes a long way back to playing together in the rough and tough Colwood arena league. . I was many years older than Gary but we always had a great relationship. Once he and a couple of other players manually dug out the soil so we could deepen our swimming pool much to my children’s delight. He had a good heart and he will be missed by many.

Gary was a good neighbour and friend for the past few years, always a friendly word and always willing to help. He will be remembered by us for the goodness of his heart. Glad we had an opportunity to get to know him. He will be missed.

Sorry we cannot be at the memorial gathering due to illness. Nevertheless, we add our prayers for Gary’s passage from this life and for his family, especially his much-loved children.

Your Father loved you very much, and was very proud of both of you. He often talked of your individual pursuits, with a gigantic smile filling his face. Gary was a kind man who loved to express his sincerity to others in his own quiet manner. With sincere condolences.

Our deepest condolence and with great sympathy our hearts go out to you, Sadie and Kurt. I just saw Gary about 6 weeks ago, a random encounter. We had a nice long chat and a couple of good laughs together, I’m so happy for that chance meeting. We sure enjoyed knowing Gary during those exciting lacrosse years. He was a true fan. With love xox
