Company Information

McCall Bros. Funeral Directors Ltd., established in 1921 by David M. McCall and James M. McCall, has provided three generations of capable and compassionate service to the Victoria community.

The McCall funeral home occupies the same site it did 75 years ago. The firm was founded with the purchase of an older residence built by Victoria pioneer, J.H. Todd, who had established the Todd Fish Canneries located where the Empress Hotel now stands.

Over many years the old Todd residence would be substantially improved and given gleaming coats of paint and the areas in front of the funeral home would be seeded to grass, planted with flowers and carry the name of McCall Gardens.

More than three decades after their 1921 start, David’s sons, Torrey and Graham McCall embarked on a project which would see a chapel built onto the Todd Residence and elimination of McCall Gardens, the latter due to parking and traffic concerns.

In 1961 the original funeral home was demolished and replaced with a modern facility which included a covered concourse, administration, and an additional chapel to better serve Victoria families.

Under the guidance of Torrey and Graham McCall, the firm became one of the largest of its kind in British Columbia. It established itself, with the assistance of dedicated staff members, as a leader in the funeral profession.

Today, Graham’s son, David A. McCall, is president and chief executive officer of the company. Born in Victoria in 1951, David graduated from Oak Bay High School and later attended U.B.C. where he received a Bachelor of Commerce.

He spent 18 months with Texaco in Vancouver and then joined the family funeral firm. David has been a director of the Funeral Service Association of B.C. and in 1995 was instrumental in establishing licensing of funeral providers and directors for the province.

Craig McCall Williams, David’s nephew, represents the fourth generation from the McCall family.  Along with serving families by assisting making funeral arrangements and the direction of services, Craig oversees the Pre-Planning, After Service Concierge, and Community Outreach programs.

There are fourteen full-time and ten part-time staff members. The General Manager is Stuart Carrol, who has been with McCall’s since 1981, coming to Victoria after serving as a licensed funeral director with leading funeral homes in Calgary and Edmonton.
