How saddened I was to hear of Auntie Eileen’s death although I knew for months that she was not in the best of health. Each time I popped over to the island, I would make sure to drop by for a cup of tea and a chat. Certainly my most vivid memories are from childhood visits to Centre or Wards Island for picnics, Blue Jay baseball games (Eileen was a huge fan), the annual Santa Claus parade with the obligatory Honeydew afterwards. Kew Beach on a warm, sunny afternoon listening to the music wafting over from the bandstand….these are absolutely massive memories of my time with Auntie Eileen as we often went everywhere as a crowd and she seemed to be always leading the pack.

I will also never forget a shared love of music, especially musical theatre. I must have been eight years old when Auntie Eileen surprised me with a ticket to see Petula Clark at the Royal Alexandra theatre. How many young girls get to see a singing idol in their lifetime? Imagine my delight when she led me backstage after the concert and I got to meet Petula – and she autographed my playbill! I never found out how she pulled that off.

Dear Auntie Eileen. I will remember you always. Although the last number of years have been difficult one’s for you, I know that you will have these memories also. I do cherish them. Rest in peace now with the family in Heaven.

    With love,

    Eileen (wee)

    Uncle Teddy,
Please know that we are all here for you. Auntie Eileen was such a great person. She gave me many happy memories as a little girl and even more as I was growing up. We all here will take very good care of her when we lay her in her final resting place.
    Love Maura
