Dorothy Schuck was born in Regina on August 20. She preferred not to reveal the year. Soon she was the big sister to Edie and Lawrence, and the young Schuck family moved to Edmonton. In 1951 Dorothy married her Navy sweetheart Alfred Todd and subsequently moved to Victoria. For many years Dorothy worked in medical offices in both Edmonton and Victoria. Back in the day she was a whiz at five-pin bowling. She usually had a good book or crossword puzzle on the go, and loved a night out at a movie, dance or dinner. Once her two children were married she retired from the work force. Mom’s great joy and pride came from family and friends. Holidays and birthdays were always reason for a delicious celebration, but a reason wasn’t absolute. The point was to enjoy and appreciate life. Shortly after her husband Al passed away in Nov 2010, Dorothy moved from the house they had built and lived in since 1954. Dorothy died peacefully on Sept 10. Her generous, fun, kind, modest, loving spirit will be especially missed by Lorrie and family, David, Dale, Matthew, Kate, Nathan, Elizabeth, Bill, Jackie, and cherished friends Jeanne and Irene. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Central Care Home.

“Wishing you always…love to surround you, good health to renew you, warm memories to uplift you, good fortune to walk beside you and happiness to fill your heart.”

A service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain, Monday, September 22, 2014 at 12 noon. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My deepest condolences go out to Dot’s family. I first met Dot back in 1982 when I moved to Victoria. I joined the Tuesday Breakfast bowling league at the Town and Country Lanes and that’s when I met Dot. She was such a lovely person and so easy to talk to. I have never met a nicer person than Dot, she always had her lovely smile and always a kind word for everyone no matter who it was. I am sorry we couldn’t make the service as we had Dr.’s appointments today. Dot will always be remembered by all of us.
There is another Angel in Heaven now watching over all of us with a smile. Rest in Peace Dot.

Dorothy was the best mother-in-law a man could ever ask for. Dorothy and Al helped raise our son, Nathan when Dale and I were at work. She made the best cabbage rolls and ginger crinkles on the planet. She will be missed…big time.

I was so fond of Dorothy. She was such a considerate woman and always so gentle and appreciative. I can only imagine how wonderful she must have been in her earlier years. She stayed dignified till the end. Thank you for sharing her with us at Central Care Home.

I first Met Dorthy 30 years ago when my brother Bill had the honor of marrying her and Al’s daughter, Dale. From that time on, she always made me and my entire family feel welcome and accepted. She was so full of Christian kindness. It was a great pleasure to have known her. She will always have a special place in my heart. She will be missed very much.

I knew Dorothy in her last phase of life as one of her nurses. Looking after her was a pleasure. She was a kind sweet spirit and it was always uplifting to see her little smile. She was always appreciative of care and it was a real honor to know her and help look after her.

Dale: I knew your Mom was not well having been kept posted by Doreen Brunsdon. It still depressing when death occurs and especially to one associated with so many memories. Dorothy and I went a fairly long way back and she was a great support to my career. She managed my office, hired staff, moved us all when we changed our location and and created much disturbance when she decided to retire. By that time we had grown to 4 associates and what seemed to be a huge staff to support us all.

I hope she is at rest and enjoying peace with your Dad.
