June 18, 1943 – November 29, 2014

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, dad, uncle and grampa.  Don passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 29, 2014 after a very brave battle with Cancer.  Don leaves Linda, his loving wife of 47 years, as well as his children, David Mullett (Michelle) and Andrea Rantucci (husband, Peter).  He also leaves his three well-loved grandchildren, Dave’s two daughters, Jessica, 11 and Madison, 8 and Andrea and Peter’s son, Gabe, 4.  Don also leaves special nieces, Cindy and Meg Rainey and Cheryl Bistric and nephew, Geoff Rainey.  Don was born in Victoria on June 18, 1943 to Edgar and Marion Mullett. He was very hard working throughout his entire life.  Don’s first work was with his dad doing renovations and carpentry where he learned to repair almost anything.  Don then tried the weather ship for a trip or two and finally settled in the trucking business.  For over 40 years, he had a successful trucking company which included gravel trucks, water trucks, back hoe’s, loaders and a fleet of street sweepers.  Don conducted his business based on honesty, fairness and integrity and was always generous and willing to lend a hand to anyone.

Don was a good husband, loved his home and was a great dad and grampa.  Don enjoyed travelling with his family and had many wonderful times in Hawaii.  He also loved to tinker with anything mechanical and restoring older cars was a favorite.  Don loved all animals, in particular his dogs, Bear and Benny and cat, Mr. P.  He was a generous and gentle man, well loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him and most of all by his loving family.

A Memorial Service will be held in McCall’s Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver St., at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2014.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory would be appreciated to Victoria Hospice or to a charity of your choice.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was saddened today to hear of Don’s passing from my nephew Tim and his wife Kim. The Renton boys, including my brother Henry (Tim’s dad) have had a long history of association with Don, going back to the days of Victoria and OK Paving, TR Crushing and Producer’s Pit, Construction Aggregates. We always enjoyed seeing and interacting with Don, whether at work or in passing, while out shopping in the Western Communities. I especially remember how animated and engaging he would be when recalling some past event, usually hilarious, that involved one or multiple of our common acquaintances.

My thoughts go out to you Linda, Dave and Andrea and the other family members and many friends whose hearts are broken today. May you find comfort from the support of family and in the condolences of those of us who had the privilege of knowing Don.
