Dominic Francis Hanley passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 3rd, after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his partner Judy and six children, Debra (Rob), Linda(Jack), Bob, Karen, Trisha (Stewart) and Stephanie(Matt); grandchildren Matt, Andy, Alex(Lara), Mike (Laura), Ben, Meghan, Kelsey, Kelly, Kate, Becky, Jack; and eight great-grandchildren.Dom was a man of faith, raised in a strong Catholic family and an active member of Sacred Heart Parish. He was born in Victoria, went to Sacred Heart School and St. Louis College, the ninth child in a family of ten children, with surviving siblings Martin, Mary and Margaret. He is predeceased by his wife Elaine, siblings Ellenor, Earl, Gilbert, Dr. Lloyd, Msgr. Phil and Father Bernie.From a very young age, Dom showed leadership qualities and strong work ethic. He was the President of the Victoria C.Y.O., an organization for young Catholics who met regularly for socials, dances and community events. In fact, Dom met Elaine at a CYO meeting! Real Estate became his life’s work, with Saanich Realty followed by DFH Real Estate. Dom’s work with clients, co-workers and business partners really was the DFH motto: Dependable, Friendly and Helpful! He was known for his integrity and generosity. Dom followed his eldest sister’s advice: ‘Never Forget the Family’ and this included his Real Estate Family as well as those who worked on the house and property, the doctors and nurses of the Cancer Clinic . Dom’s focus was to ensure that everyone was taken care of – and this he did, right up until his passing. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral will be held on Monday, September 8th at Sacred Heart Church 4040 Nelthorpe Road, Victoria at 1pm.Reception to follow in Parish Hall.Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Foundation.
