July 18, 1960 – November 25, 2014

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of our sweet Cindy on November 25, 2014 at Royal Jubilee.  Cindy was born in Victoria on July 8, 1960 and is survived by her mother, Joan; sister, Lea and brothers; Rick, Drew and Patrick; Aunt, Betty Barnes and nieces and nephews and her family at McRae Group Home.  Cindy loved people, music, her art and giving hugs.  She attended Garth Homer and was involved with Special Olympics for 20 years.  I would like to give special thanks to Victoria Community Living and their staff for the tremendous effort they made to make her last weeks comfortable.  We would also like to thank the staff at Jubilee on 8-North and Dr. Eric Milne for caring.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Community Living Victoria, 3861 Cedar Hill Cross Road, Victoria, BC  V8P 2M7 or Garth Homer Society, 813 Darwin Avenue, Victoria, BC  V8X 2X7 or a charity of your choice.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Dear Joan and family,

Sarah and I were both very sorry to hear about Cindy’s passing. She was always such a happy and positive member of any team, truly exemplifying the positive nature of Special Olympics by always trying her best and being brave in the attempt. She will be sorely missed by her teammates and her many friends, including us.

My thoughts and prayers are with Cindy’s family. She had such a kind heart. I remember I first joined rhythmic gymnastics and she just came up to me and gave me this big hug and smiled and said don’t be shy, everyone is really nice here and to this I say I am still involved and love it! RIP Cindy you will be missed.

Terri and I knew Cindy as someone who always tired her best in life and in her Special Olympics sports; even though she had many challenges in life, she was and inspiration to those who knew he; .She was a simple person whose ability to try despite challenges reminded us all that in life , when faced with a challenge it not the success overcoming of the challenge that is the important aspect in life but the trying your best and not giving up that is the real victory and an aspect to be admired. R.I.P. Cindy.

    Joan and family.
I was so sorry to read that Cindy had passed, Joan. My heart was sad when I read that. She was such a love, so much fun, always willing to be a part of whatever we had planned. She came into my life at about age 6 (I think) sooo cute, we were at Victor School. We spent many years there, learning bus routes, work experience, cooking, daily living chores, trip to Saskatchewan, Outdoor school at Lake Cowichan and then Special Olympics.
She was such a part of my life as were you Joan. My children and I will never forget her.
I am the proud owner of one of her fabulous art pieces. Love and long hugs to you and your family.
