March 22, 1922 – June 21, 2015

David was born and grew up in Toronto, a city he loved and visited often after moving to Victoria in 1990.  He attended Humberside Collegiate excelling in academics, art and music and then entered the electrical engineering program at the University of Toronto, graduating with honours in 1943.  Immediately following graduation David enlisted in the R.C.E.M.E branch of the army and served on the west coast from 1944 – 1946.  He returned to Toronto with his Victoria bride and started a 40 year career with Ontario Hydro.  One of the many highlights of his career was serving on a committee at the University of Waterloo which established the first engineering co-op program. David had many wonderful years at his summer homes in Muskoka and being an avid boater spent his leisure time motor boating, sailing and rowing.  His winter passion was skiing and he passed along his love of this sport and his love of boating to his children.  David was a gifted musician and spent countless hours playing classical and jazz on his piano.  Also a talented artist, he attended many courses at the Ontario College of Art and leaves a legacy of his artwork to his family. David was predeceased by his brother Edwin (Jean) and is survived and missed by his wife of 67 years Jeanie (Stewart), son Robert (Cheryl), daughter Lynda and grandchildren Nicole (Mark), David, Geoffrey (Hailey), Graeme and great- grandsons Everett and Colin who will miss their papa. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Cordova Bay United Church.  Tributes, if desired may be made to BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC  V8R 6V5, www.bccancerfoundation.com

I was very saddend to hear about Dave’s passing. I worked with him in Central Region back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Dave was a true gentleman and a good person. I was a junior employee at the time and he was very kind and generous with his time.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
