David Edward Simms passed away peacefully on November 22, 2011 with his loving wife, Dorothy, by his side. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 2, 1926 to Frederick Edward Simms and Myra Ann Simms (nee Chandler), David served in the Navy and later the Army Reserve. He married Dorothy (nee Wiebe) in November 1953 and raised 4 children, Deborah, Geoffrey, Kimberley, and Craig. As an Accountant and Businessman, David was always interested in making businesses more efficient and was always willing to share his knowledge. One long time friend referred to him as “ahead of his time”. David was also actively involved in Scouts Canada in Winnipeg as a Scout and a Leader.

He was a true gentleman and a renaissance man, his love of learning, animals, nature, and the creative arts passed on to his family. He will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (nee Wiebe); his children Deborah (husband David, grandchildren Devyn and Chandler), Geoffrey (wife Ira, grandchildren Elizabeth and Nathaniel), Craig (wife Kathy, granddaughter Maxine, and puppy Penny) and Kimberley; and his brother Frederick.

We would like to thank all those at the James Bay Care Facility who showed David such love and care during his stay.

A Memorial Reception will be held at SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of David Edward Simms to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia, 300 – 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
