Cremation

We believe you should be able to choose the type of cremation service that you find most meaningful. Many families and individuals have different beliefs and traditions. That’s why our list of services includes many options.

When cremation is chosen, a person’s ashes are placed into an urn. The urn is often taken to a final resting place such as a family plot, cremation garden, columbarium or a family member’s home. Sometimes cremated remains are divided into several urns and are then interred, scattered or kept at many different locations. If ashes are scattered over land or water, it is done so as permitted by law. Often a portion of the cremated remains are kept in a keepsake urn as a remembrance.

If you choose cremation, it does not mean that you cannot have a service.  Survivors still need the time and opportunity to grieve.  We offer many types of services specifically designed for cremation.  Whether it is a funeral service, celebration of life memorial service, or an informal gathering, you can benefit from that sense of community and take comfort in the memories that others bring and share about your loved one.

Funeral Service

No two funerals are the same. Each family we serve has unique and important needs that we strive to satisfy. By working closely with your family we can arrange a funeral ceremony that will express the special, one-of-a-kind relationship that you shared with your loved one and help enrich the memories that you will always cherish.

We do our best to deliver service beyond expectation. Whether you come to us when your loved one has died, or when you want to make your arrangements in advance, we provide you with services tailored to your needs and desires. Our staff members are your caring friends and neighbors – ready to serve you and your family.

Maintaining a tradition of quality service is our top priority. It is our privilege to uphold that tradition while helping you.

Celebration of Life / Memorial Service

A memorial service differs from a traditional funeral only in the actions taken by the gathering, not in the intention to honour the deceased. Such a service allows for more flexibility and creativity; it can be held almost anywhere – our Tribute & Reception Centre, informal Family Chapel, large Floral Chapel, or a location of your choice – and the activities involved are completely personal.

We take great care to offer services to those in our community who are seeking more personal ways to express grief and say goodbye to a loved one. We listen closely to our families, and create truly unique, completely personal services for your loved one.

Some popular ways in which our client families have personalized their memorial services include:

  • Celebration of Life tribute video: A montage of your photos set to music, a tribute video beautifully showcases the life of your loved one. We assist you in selecting the photos and music to create a powerful testament to a life well-lived
  • Display arts, crafts, or other personal mementos that were cherished by the deceased
  • Lead the funeral procession past some of the deceased’s favourite spots around Victoria (residence, work place, church, golf course, hockey or curling rink, or restaurant)
  • Hold the funeral in a favourite spot of the deceased, we can bring our video tribute movie and equipment, catering, and other items to help make the tribute as meaningful as possible
  • Playing their favorite songs – classical or contemporary – during the visitation hours or service
  • Releasing balloons at the interment, as a celebration of the life and spirit of the deceased (these balloons are biodegradable)
  • Presentation of a personalized photo display in hardcover book format
  • Family and friends are invited to write letters portraying their unspoken thoughts, which are then placed in the casket with the deceased
  • Online guest books: all condolences left by website visitors are printed and presented to the family

You might have some ideas of your own; we  will do our utmost to assist you in carrying out your desired personalization plans. Contact one of our memorial service planners to discuss your wishes.

Some families choose to not have a formal memorial event. Please ask about how we can make arrangements for a simple cremation for your loved one with a memorial reception or simple graveside service if you choose.
