December 2, 1936 – September 3, 2015

With sadness, we announce the passing of Claire Thompson (nee Brown) on September 3, 2015. Predeceased by husband Mike and sister Shirley, Claire is survived and fondly remembered by her children, Doug (Gail), Grant (Karen) and Linda (Gary); brothers Bill (Marion) and Bob (Maureen); sister-in-law Jean (Wayne); grandchildren Deanna, Kelsey, Michael, Ryan, Danielle and Jenny; cousins, nephews and nieces; and best friend Floydey.

Claire was born and raised in Regina and although she moved away 45 years ago, Saskatchewan was always her home. She loved the fish and chips at Butler’s at Regina Beach. She bit her fingernails to the quick watching the Roughriders play. And while she would abide grass and low bushes, one by one the trees at the family home in Victoria were for the chop until the view was entirely unobstructed in all directions.

Claire loved a hand of cards, babies, a glass of rye-and-coke, dogs, the daily crossword, and, most of all, her family and friends. We are sad that Mom is gone, but she left us with many great memories. We are especially cheered by the thought of Mom and Dad together again, laughing and dancing a polka!

The family is grateful to The Priory staff and volunteers and Leonie for their dedicated caregiving. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, the Canadian Red Cross, or the charity of your choice.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I am so deeply sorry for Clair’s passing. There are so many fond memories of both her and your dad. For as long as I can remember your family was just an extension of ours. As kids, Karen, Mike and I would be so happy when our parents had bridge at our house. We would wake up early and finish off the rest of the chips and make a fort with the card table. We would hear the laughter till late into the night. Claire and Mike! They were the only ‘elders’ we were allowed to call by their first name! Mom and Claire would be on the phone as soon as we were all sent to school. If we were ever sick just trying to get mom off the phone was quite a challenge! Our moms had such a wonderful relationship that lasted more than 60years! That is a gift for sure. I remember the trip we took to Victoria and stayed with you. The last trip was in Hawaii when your mom and Linda were there as well. We would be walking on the canal and see your mom on the Lanai ‘sneaking’ a cigarette! Dad would shake is index finger at her and she would give it right back! Then her laugh could be heard! That laugh!!! I will always remember her jest for life and her sense of humour! When Clair came to visit Regina I would be so excited to see her. Your mom would help with meals and the cleanup. With that, dad would fondly call her ‘Beulah’! That name stuck with each visit. Even my kids thought early in their lives that was her real name! Your parents have always been two of my favorite people. Clair will be missed by many, especially by my mom. May you all find comfort in the memories that are yours to cherish. Find strength in the caring thoughts of others that comfort you at this time. Remember all your mom did for you. The advice and wisdom and the examples she set for you. Remember her laugh!!! What a beautiful laugh…a laugh that was powerful and infectious! I truly believe that your parents and my dad are continuing that love and friendship they shared and ‘kibitzing ‘ back and forth! I will never forget those times with your mom. Sending you comfort and strength and love… Kim Woolley and kids Kristyn(Jon), Sarah, Kayla, Stefanie and Kenny

To the Family of Claire Thompson, we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Claire and hope that all your lives are enriched by the many happy memories that were shared with her and of course Mike. We also have many happy memories of both of them although ours go back to the very early years in Winnipeg when we were both just married and making our way in the world, beginning our families and leaning upon each other for support and encouragement. During the subsequent 60 years there were very few years when we didn’t keep in touch if only by an exchange of Christmas cards and / or letters. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
