March 8, 1918 – January 22, 2012

Born in Liverpool, England to Ann Robinson and Albert Edward McDonald, Annie first emigrated to Canada in 1920 and lived in Ontario for a brief period of time. The family moved back to England when Annie was still very small and she grew up in Liverpool and neighboring West Kirby, Cheshire along with her brother, Albert McDonald. During the war she met Harry Tebbs from Hoylake and they were married in 1942. The entire family including Annie’s parents and brother emigrated to Canada in 1952.

Annie was predeceased by husband Harry in 1976 and is survived by daughter Patricia and her husband Michael Claxton, daughter Eileen Tebbs, grandson Christopher Claxton and his wife Tara, great-grandsons Apollo, Heywood and Case Claxton, nephew Michael McDonald and his family, and relatives in England, USA and Australia.

Annie was a charter member of the Victoria Pride Lioness Club and she enjoyed participating in their many functions over the years. Annie resided at her home in the West Saanich/Prospect Lake area for over 60 years.

Many thanks to the nurses and doctors in Emergency and on 4A North at Victoria General Hospital who took such good care of her on her last day. Also many thanks to the staff and home care workers provided through Beacon Community Services. Their assistance made it possible for Annie to safely remain in her home and maintain her independence. She particularly enjoyed sharing stories from her long life with the daily respite care workers and hearing details of their lives.

Annie treasured her family and friends above all else and took particular pleasure in watching her grandson and three great-grandsons grow up. Their visits were the highlight of her life.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s & All Angel’s Church, 4733 West Saanich Road, Rev. Herbert O’Driscoll officiating.

December 28, 1966 – November 7, 2011

After a journey of endless courage, lots of heart, dignity and strength, Robbie passed away on November 7, 2011 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. Robbie lived each day to the
fullest with laughter and a positive outlook. Throughout her life, she made many contributions to trying to make the world a better place. Robbie’s final journey, as her life, demonstrated her deep love and concern for others along with her incredible optimism and belief in a better world.

She leaves to mourn her mother Hetty Pawlinsky; sisters Heather, Maxine (Gord) Zamzow, and Twylla (Andy) McKendry. Also, nephew Craig (Marni); their children Coral and Crystal; nephew Chris (Jen); their children Bryn, Neva and Matthew. She will also be missed by Aunts and Uncles Erna Betcher (Fred), Lil Middleton (Wayne), Wilbert Schoenrath (Karen) and their families; as well as cousin Maureen Pengelly. She was predeceased by her father, Stan, and her grandparents Kate and Henry Schoenrath, and Neva and Nick Pawlinsky.

Robbie was born in Swan River, Manitoba on December 28, 1966 to Stan and Hetty Pawlinsky. Being a small town, she was able to participate in many activities including Girl Guides and Job’s Daughter’s where she held the position of Honoured Queen in the fall of 1982. She was also the Grand Bethel Honoured Queen for Manitoba in 1985-86. She enjoyed her summers at the family’s cottage at Wellman Lake and fishing with Dad. She graduated from SVRSS in 1985. She held several jobs; working at the swimming pool, as a waitress for the Roadrunner Drive-in and Pizza Place, and as a teaching assistant. In 1988 and l989, she attended Parkland College in Dauphin Manitoba where she excelled at Business Administration/Accounting. In 1989 she moved to Victoria and worked for several accounting firms, her final employer being KPMG.

In 1999, she had a grand mal seizure while at work, and this is when her Brain Tumour was first diagnosed. She underwent several surgeries, chemo and radiation treatments in the years that followed, and although she was not able to return to work, she dedicated much of her time and energy in helping others. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star in 2003, and became treasurer for Ruth Chapter #22, she also took on the role of Treasurer for the Victoria Presbytery, and served on several committees at both Garden City and Cadboro Bay United Churches (CBUC). In 2003, she wanted to raise awareness of Brain Tumours, and organized the inaugural Spring Sprint fundraiser in the Victoria area. Robbie also gave back to the community by volunteering at Pebbles gift shop located in the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and being part of the church family at Cadboro Bay United Church.

Robbie enjoyed watching figure skating and went to several National Figure Skating competitions as a spectator. She cherished the hours spent with her dog Pepper, along with the fun times with Kimmy Bhandal and Joshua Green. She enjoyed chatting with all the people living in the cul-de-sac. She also had a special relationship with her sister Heather, who was her housemate and eventually her primary caregiver. Robbie loved doing crafts, making chocolates, or spending endless hours making cards. She enjoyed cooking and made an awesome cheesecake.

Special thanks to all the people who touched her life over the years especially the people who drove her to appointments in Victoria or Vancouver. The family appreciated the CBUC Angels who helped Robbie with her lunch, along with Mandy Emery’s daily visits. Thanks also to Rev. Green and Rev. White, who were both so caring and a real inspiration when she needed her faith the most. The family would also like to thank her doctors for their care over the years: Dr. Keith McQueen, Dr. Gregory Cairncross, Dr. Ramesh Shajpaul, Dr. John Paul McGhie, Dr. Wayne Shtybel, and all the wonderful staff and volunteers on the 8th floor South in the Royal Jubilee Hospital Patient Care Centre.

A celebration of Robbie’s life will be officiated by Rev. Mark Green, Cadboro Bay United Church, 2625 Arbutus Road in Victoria on November 18 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robbie’s memory to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (for research) 620 Colborne Street, Suite 301, London ON, N6B 3R9 (www.braintumour.ca), or to raise funds for the lighting/signage project at Cadboro Bay United Church, 2625 Arbutus Road, Victoria BC V8N 1W4 (http://main.cadbayuc.org).

Interment will take place in the family plot at the Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River at a later date. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.

1921 – 2011

Passed away peacefully on June 19th in Victoria, at the age of 90 years. She is survived by Timothy, her loving husband of 64 years; her daughter, Karen (Geok-Seng) Tang of Victoria; her son Ta-Wei (Shelley) of Beaverton, Oregon; four grandchildren, Monica (Nicholas) Althouse, Allan Tang, David Po and Rosa Po; one great-granddaughter, Marlena Althouse; two brothers, Qingyu Mao and Qingyuan Mao, and their families who mostly reside in Shanghai. Born in Dalian, China, Barbara moved frequently during the early years of her life due to war and political upheaval. She completed her education at Ginling Women’s College in Chengdu, China before evacuating to Taiwan, where she raised her family. After immigrating to Canada and settling in Victoria in 1980, she found renewed purpose as a loving grandmother and as owner operator of Sayward News on Douglas Street for 10 years. She loved to paint and swim, enjoying her last 30
years in Victoria surrounded by family and friends. We respected her strong character, followed her quiet examples and loved her beyond measure.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 10:30 am in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL. Flowers are gratefully declined; tributes, if desired, may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

McCall Bros. Funeral Homes of Victoria, BC: information regarding James Barry Worth

Died peacefully at home on June 11th at the age of 65. Barry is survived by his wife Susan Jennings, his father Allister (Bud) Worth, brother Brian (Jane), sister Lorraine (Ron Tremblay) and sister Dianne (Robin Saunders). Predeceased by his mother Zita and brother Peter. Barry will be sorely missed by the family he left behind.
Barry joined the Canadian Forces in September 1964 at the age of 18 and completed 33 years of service. While he served with both the Royal Canadian Regiment and the PPCLI, his heart was always with The Canadian Guards, the first regiment he joined.
After completing his basic training, Barry was posted to the 1st Battalion, The Canadian Guards, in Camp Picton, Ontario, in 1965. His first employment with The Canadian Guards was as a subaltern on the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa. At 20 years of age, he was sent to Cyprus to serve as the Canadian Contingent Economics Officer. That was just the start of a varied career with the army: in 1966 he was named the Team Captain for The Canadian Guards Small Arms team and later spent a year in Germany with the Canadian representative small arms team in the NATO Skill-at-Arms Competition (Prix LeClerq); in 1968 was posted to Germany with 2 RCR as Mortar Platoon Commander and later served as Assistant Adjutant for a year; in 1971 he was posted to 3PPCLI as second-in-command of a rifle company and, later, was employed as the Infantry Officer at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering; from 1976 to 1979 he was the Regular Support Officer with the Hamilton Militia District; and in 1981 he was employed on his first staff job when he was posted to Management Consulting Services Unit Pacific, followed by a similar posting to Ottawa; in 1991 he was sent to Central America with the United Nations to help supervise the disarmament of the Contra rebels; his final posting was with Pacific Region Operations at Maritime Pacific Headquarters.
Army life suited Barry, but in 1996 he was ready to retire and enjoy a new chapter in his life. And he did. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying every moment with his wife and beloved dogs beside him.
A celebration of life will be held at his home on June 18, 2011at 2:30p.m.. A second celebration is being planned for Petawawa, where Barry grew up and his family still reside.
Donations in support of ALS research would be appreciated.
