Carole passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 25, 2013 with her family by her side.   She was born on November 20, 1937 in Fort William, Ontario and moved to Victoria with her first husband and young family in 1967.  She married the love of her life, Tut (Evan) Jones, in 1976 and the two of them had a wonderful life together skiing, playing tennis, traveling, and of course, golfing.  All that knew Carole would agree that she had the most cheerful, charismatic personality, wonderful sense of humour, generous nature and was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She was a fantastic cook and a gracious hostess who loved to entertain.   After valiantly fighting off lung cancer ten years ago, she lived ten more full and happy years before it struck again this fall.  She chose to fight it once again, but the many complications that followed her surgery proved to be too much for her.   She is predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Minnie Strachan, and is survived by her sister, Lois (Ralph Smith), her loving husband, Tut, her three children, Laurie (Don Woodland), David Murrell (Joan), and Mary Murrell (Rob Aylesworth) and her three step-children, Susan Stobart, Evan Jones and Grant Jones (Terri), as well as 11 grandchildren and one great grandson (Nicole, Andrew, Stephanie, Rhys, Dylan, Michelle, Tanner, Kevin, Megan, Kaitlyn, Nicholas and Rhys).  She is also fondly remembered by her many friends in Victoria, Courtenay and Palm Desert.

There will be a small service for immediate family only, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society – BC and Yukon Division.

I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Carole. She was my ‘step’ aunty, and although I did not spend much time with her, every time I was with her at rare family gatherings she always had a big smile and seemed to be very happy to be sharing her life with my uncle Tut. Our families always have the best intentions of keeping in touch, but it seems that years go by, and although I think of my extended family often, I truly wish we were closer. I am terrible at keeping in touch and must make a better effort, I suppose. Having said that, I only found out about Carole because I was on-line looking up my mother Pat Dalziel [Jones] , Tut’s sister, as I was thinking my mom went to Victoria High for a year and that is where my grand daughter will be going next year. I saw an obituary about another Pat that went to Vic High and saw McCall’s come up; I scrolled down and saw that Carole had passed away. I am sending love and hugs to my extended family and send my condolences. Regards, Terrie
