Anne Elizabeth Pope (nee Hately) passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Sidney, BC.

Anne was born in 1941 in Wellington, Shropshire, England, but spent her formative life in Northumberland. She went to Brown Rigg boarding school in Bellingham with her brother John. On leaving school, she went to work at the library in Morpeth. She then joined the Wrens (Women’s Royal Naval Service) as a film librarian spending time at Rosyth Dockyard in Scotland. After leaving the Wrens, she married and moved to Canada where she spent over 20 years working in film distribution at MCA/Universal and Criterion Films.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, cross stitch and knitting. She travelled extensively in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.

She is survived by her husband Norman; daughters Susan and Melonie; cousins Violet Carse and Gordon Brinkhurst; nephew Michael Hately and niece Joanne Bodinner. She will be missed by family and friends around the world.

On November 22, 2014, a private family cremation service was held. On November 29, 2014, a short celebration of Anne’s life was held during the Mess Dinner of the 78th Fraser Highlanders Feast of St. Andrew where the pipers gave a beautiful rendition of “Highland Cathedral” in her honour.

The family plan to spread Anne’s ashes on the beach at Sooke, BC and above the town of Wooler, Northumberland.

“She’s aye sae neat, sae trim, sae tight,
All grace all round her hover” – Robert Burns
