Albert was born in Whitehorse on April 1st, 1920. When he was still young, his parents, Frederick and Alma, moved him and his six siblings to Victoria.  Albert attended Victoria College and UBC before studying medicine at Queens University with the support of his bride Joyce. Upon their return to Vancouver Island, Albert worked in Honeymoon Bay as the company doctor for a logging company. He later set up practice in Victoria, where he served the community for over 30 years as a well-respected GP and surgeon. For many of those years Joyce worked at his side. Well-deserved retirement followed, during which Albert and Joyce made several trips to the north and enjoyed many happy years on Pender Island. Together they maintained a home in Victoria until just a year ago. Sadly, Joyce, Albert’s devoted wife of over 70 years, left us only recently.  Albert was reunited with her on December 28th, 2013, when he passed away peacefully at the James Bay Care Centre. He was also predeceased by his six siblings, Alma, Bob, Florence, Fred, Howard and Jean. Albert is survived by his loving son, Fred (Hazel); grandchildren, Rupert and Emma and many nieces and nephews. Albert was a kind, gentle, loving and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family. His greatest skill as a physician, father and friend was his human touch. He leaves a lasting legacy in his family and the many lives he cared for and helped to bring into this world.
