October  4, 1926 – December 21, 2014

If you are from Victoria, you have probably heard Al play the accordion somewhere in the City.
Al played the accordion professionally for over sixty years and was happiest when he was playing for the enjoyment of the people of Victoria. Al loved his family and they all loved him dearly and miss him greatly. A loving husband and father to Lana, his wife of 42 years and children Linda, Laura, Nicolas and Natalie as well as grandchildren Timothy, Angela, Sean and Brittney and great grandson Logan. In addition to being a beloved and well known musician, Denoni, Al - by furniture-webAl was also a well known athlete;
playing various sports one being football for St Louis College and the Victoria Mustangs. He played lacrosse for Nanaimo and was a member of the first Victoria Shamrocks team. His working career started in the Land Registry office for the Government where he stayed until he started his own Television repair business. But, music was his life from his first band “The Cubanaires” to the “Al Denoni Trio” to his solo playing. He was the music behind the Jerry Gosley Smile Show for over 25 years. He was the musical entertainment at the Rathskellar Restaurant for many years and also taught Denoni, Al - boat-webaccordion to many students at Tempo Trend music studio.  When he wasn’t playing music, he enjoyed boating with his family and friends at the Capital City Yacht Club with many trips to Desolation Sound and the Gulf Islands. Al gave back to the community by entertaining at many of the nursing homes in Victoria. He was lucky enough to spend the last two years at Resthaven Lodge (who we thank for their loving care) where he was able to enjoy other local musicians who entertained  the residents.  Although we are so sad to lose him we know that he will now be playing on a much larger stage. To a man who lived life well and was a kind and loving gentleman at all times.
Arrivederci  amore mio!

A celebration of Al’s life will be held at the Capital City Yacht Club on January 9, 2015 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

    Lana and family,
    We are saddened by your news but have wonderful memories of Al…the fun times out on the water, the bridge games, playing charades, dressing up for ‘gourmet’ dinners. We had some great times. Our sincere condolences.

    Please accept condolences from a longtime friend going back to our early teen years — We formed the first Band called the Top Hats. I played Drums along with other Kids from the Vic West community — My Grandad made our music stands

    I last saw Al–at a Victoria Jazz Festival about 15 years ago. And my Aunt who was in a Nursing Home where he was playing talked to him about those old days —- My Condolences to all the family —- Roy Hetherington

    Lana and family. So sad to read of Al’s passing, an end of an era. I couldn’t begin to count the number of dances and functions where the music came from Al and his band, or even by himself. Those were good days and times. A pity they pass so quickly.

  • Irv & Suzanne Lang

    Our heartfelt condolences to you Lana & family. As a fellow accordionist, Al & I go back many years with our shared love of music. While his presence will be sadly missed his music will play on in our hearts. Rest in peace dear friend.
