Much beloved by family and friends alike, Betty left us peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2015 in Nanaimo, BC.

Born in Saskatoon, SK to Tom and Ruth Almond on June 5, 1923, she was predeceased by her dear husband Ray in 2010, and by her sisters and brothers-in-law; Catherine (Art) Kiteley, Ruth (Ernie) Ball and Maud (John) Dutton. She will be forever missed by her children; Sheila (Rod) Stringer and Michael (Jennifer), grandchildren; Erin Stringer, Leslie (Corey) Demoissac, John (Julie and Mason Daly) Stringer, Weldon Stringer, Sara (Brian Martin) Chadsey and Stephen Chadsey, great granddaughters; Peyton and Finley Demoissac, younger siblings; Gerie (Bill) Turner, Ted Almond, Gordon (Carole) Almond and Marjorie (Al) Coupe, as well as a large extended family and a wealth of friends.

Betty and Ray met in Victoria, B.C. and were married there in 1946. Over their 64 years together, they went on to live in the Lower Mainland and Toronto before retiring back to Vancouver Island in 1988.

Betty was a kind-hearted and devoted wife and mother, caring for her family above all else. Her skills as an accomplished homemaker complemented Ray’s pursuit of a busy career, and together they made a great team. So many were welcomed into the warm homes they created over the years, and thanks to Betty’s famous talents in the kitchen, no one left hungry.

Inspired by a musical upbringing, she often sang to herself, and had a beautiful touch on the piano. She loved nature; her gardens flourished, and she had a great tenderness for animals, especially strays, who always somehow knew exactly which house to approach. A bridge player, cryptic crossword buff and avid reader, she continued to enjoy her books to the end of her long, full life.

May her gentle spirit rest in peace.

At this time we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the GSS Wexford Creek, Nanaimo, for their superb care and loving kindness toward our Mom over the past 7 years. Our sincere gratitude as well to Dr.Thorsteinn Njalsson.

Interment will be private. In Betty’s memory, all who knew her are invited to gather on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 4 to 6 pm at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC.

A family friend, who lives in Vancouver, just informed me of the passing of your Mom. I know she had an amazing and joyful life but the loss still saddens me. I remember such happy times at our cottage and our home, I truly loved your parents, and I know how my Mom and Dad had wonderful years with that friendship.
I will sadly tell my Mom the news. We moved her to Cambridge about2 years ago because I live there. She is in Long Term care.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Jill
