BARCLAY – Adele Laura Barclay (nee Combe). Born in Victoria, B.C. November 2, 1912. Passed away September 20, 2010.
Adele was the second daughter of Captain Basil Charles and Edith Neville Combe. She attended Central, Saint Margaret’s and Norfolk House schools in Victoria and married Guy Barclay in October 1934. Adele was predeceased by her sister Vivien in 1996 and by her loving husband Guy in 1997. She is survived by her two sons, Roger of Victoria and Patrick (Margaret) of Kimberley, B.C. She will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Andrew (Cindy), Karen (Graeme) and Stephen (Sandy) and her 7 great grandsons, Sam, Max, Devin, Ian, Markus, Matthew and Nathan.
Adele and Guy were long time residents of Victoria and Vancouver. Adele was both a Cancer survivor and a Seat Belt survivor. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Red Cross and drove for “Meals on Wheels” for over 20 years. Adele and Guy enjoyed travelling and gave many talks and slide shows about their adventures around the world.
Our family would like to thank all the staff of Berwick House in Victoria for the love and care they shared with Mom over the past 13 years. Our thanks also to the staff of We Care Home Services – Victoria, especially to Liliana, Janet and Darlene.
A family service will be held for Adele on Friday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. in ST. LUKE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Road, Victoria. Flowers are gratefully declined. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com

Condolences to you and your family. I know that my parents enjoyed immensely the times they spent with your parents.
I imagine that my mother (Daphne Field Sept ’12 to Jan ’10} met Adele at St. Margaret’s School and kept in touch thereafter.
    Sincerely
    Barbara Creighton (Vancouver, BC)

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Aunt Adele. We so admired her and Uncle Guy. They were such a lovely couple – so kind …so generous….just lovely people. Unfortunately due to some health challenges we will be unable to attend the service. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I am sorry to miss this service for your mother as plane connections could not be made at this time. I will be there in thought at the time of the service.

I wish to take this time to say both Carol and myself will miss both Guy and Adel. They both showed such kindness to my family. Adele was like a mother to me when I lived in Vancouver. I always loved our long visits and she always insisted on sending me on my way with a care package to aid in the life of a starving student bachelor. I almost met up with them both in Greece as we found out latter were in Athens at the same time. That would have been an exciting visit.

Life brings many people into our lives but only a few touch our hearts and create a void on their passing. A special place will always be in both Carol’s and my hearts by your mother and father. They both showed love and support to my family for which I will always be grateful.

Those that had the pleasure of Adele’s acquaintance will remember this grand lady.

I wish to say to all the family members that to live a life in the service of others is the best legacy one can leave behind as this is worth far more than anything else. Remember Adele as one that served others through her 20 years of service to her clients through Meals On Wheels.

God bless Adele and keep her with you in heaven.

Doug. Carol, Renee, Caprice, Colin Rutherford
