Cora Agnes Colby (Dabb)

Born in Ladysmith, B.C. August 1, 1925, died on January 17, 2012 in Victoria, B.C. Our dear Aunt Cora passed away after a lengthy illness on January 17, 2012 at Victoria General Hospital. Predeceased by her loving husband Richard L. Colby in 1990 and her dear brother William (Bill) Dabb in 2000; baby brother Reginald in 1917; father, Owen Dabb in 1948 and mother, Margaret Dabb in 1970. Cora is survived by her niece and close friend Muriel Carlson (Ken) of Ladysmith; nephews David Askey (Billie) of White Rock, Peter Dabb(Janis) of Vancouver; niece Peggy Southin (Chris) of Peachland; nephew Norman Dabb (Bev) of Kamloops, their families and many cousins. Her step-family, Ross & Tom Colby & Christie McLean of Comox; her sister Gladys Askey of Cassidy and sister-in-law Cynthia Dabb of Ladysmith.
Cora had many close and dear friends whom she thought the world of and who thought the world of her. She leaves us all with many good memories and we are forever grateful that she was a part of our lives for so many years. Her cheerful disposition, right to the end, is what kept all of us going. Having been born and growing up in Ladysmith, she had a wealth of knowledge to share about the History of Ladysmith. Cora’s working careers were very diverse, she worked for the CPR Railway as an Assistant. She was also a Telephone Operator in Ladysmith, a Teletypist in Victoria. Cora was a Medical Receptionist/Assistant at what is now known as Hillside Medical Clinic in Ladysmith for many years and oversaw the construction of the new Clinic when the old Clinic was torn down in the 1960′s. Cora met and married the love of her life and moved to Victoria in the late 1960′s. She then continued her work as a Medical Receptionist/Assistant for a group of Surgeons in Victoria.
Cora was a very creative and artistic person who had many interesting hobbies, creating beautiful flower gardens, oil painting, embroidery, crocheting and knitting, these were among her many interests. The people she met in her lifetime were many & she enjoyed each person for who they were. Those who knew her loved her. She was a person who loved life, who took each day as it came and made the best of it. She and her husband Richard (Dick) had a great life together, be it travelling or taking photographs, working in the yard or reading, they were as one together.
Cora’s niece, Muriel, would like to thank all of the Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff at Victoria General Hospital for the exceptional care Cora received while a patient on 6th Floor, D Unit. A special thank you to her companions and good friends, Jackie Ross, Donna Sawyer, Barb Sinden and John and Mary Robinson, for all of your support and for everything that you have done to make Cora’s last years easier for her to cope with. You are all truly a God send and true friends. For all you did for Cora and for me, we give thanks.
By request there will be no service. Cremation and Inurnment at Ross Bay Cemetery, Victoria, B.C. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made in her memory to the Children’s Hospital, Vancouver, B.C.
MISS ME BUT LET ME GO
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me.
I want no nights in a gloom-filled room;
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone,
It’s all part of the Master’s plan,
A stop on the way to home.
So when you are lonely & sick at heart
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me-but let me go.

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Marjorie at the grand age of 95. She was born in Victoria and lived here all her life.
Predeceased by her husband, John Jesse in 1988. Survived by sons Bill (Ann) and Tom (Reta); grandsons Mike (Tilura), and Jeff (Candice); granddaughter Erin; great-grandson Nicholas; nieces and nephews; friends from Bears at Juan de Fuca; and special friends Ginny Rossell, and Sylvia and Don Hatfield.
A very special Mum, Grandma, Great-grandma, and friend to all those blessed to have known her. She had a remarkable ability to recall names, dates, and details of family activities, and always asked about family, friends, and events in their lives.
Throughout her long life Marjorie loved to garden; having a “green thumb” that seemed to make almost anything grow. In her early years, she, with her Dad, William Burch, operated a market garden, growing and preparing vegetables and fruits for sale at the old Victoria City Market.
Mum was admitted to Hospice at the Richmond Pavilion, then transferred to, and recently passed away at, Oak Bay Lodge. We extend special thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at both facilities for their professional and loving care.
Until she could no longer hold the needles, Marjorie knitted infant toques for Canada Comforts, the organization that has sent hundreds of her knitting items to impoverished countries to help keep the children warm. Marjorie was loved by all, and will always be in our hearts.

Dr. Robert (Ted) Edmund Musgrave Lee, M.D., F.R.C.S., F.A.C.S.
January 16, 2012
With daughters Shannon and Lesley by his side, our beloved Dad passed away peacefully on January 8, 2012. Ted was predeceased by wife, Thelma; sons, Robert (Bob) and William (Bill) and brother, Patrick. He is survived by daughters, Shannon/Richard and Lesley/Randy; grandchildren, Phillip/Julianne, Carmen and Joshua; sisters-in-law Evelyn and Mary and nieces and nephews.
Born in Winnipeg in 1927, Ted spent his childhood in the farming community of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. After high school graduation he went on to the University of Manitoba where he completed Medical school. Working as an intern in Portage la Prairie one summer, Ted met our Mom ,Thelma, a golden haired piano student who captured his heart. The two were married in 1952.
Ted practised medicine in Saskatchewan and Manitoba before bringing the family to Terrace in 1956, then a rugged up and coming BC forestry town. He returned to the University of Manitoba to specialize in surgery. Upon obtaining his fellowship, Ted returned to Terrace as a General Surgeon where he had his practise until 1987. It a was a very busy and rewarding career that allowed him to come to know and help many of the town’s population. Many a time he was woken in the night to tend to an emergency and family outings were often preceded with a house call while mom, four kids and the family Saint Bernard waited in the station wagon. He was also dedicated to bringing and maintaining Mills Memorial Hospital to the highest of standards.
Ted was very involved civically in Terrace in music and education. He served on the school board for many years, ultimately as chairman. He was also on the committee that laid the foundation for the Northwest Community College. Early on, he was part of a group that brought classical music concerts to Terrace. Once on the school board he made sure a band program was created. He was also was determined to bring a fine arts theatre to Terrace. For his contribution to the school board and music in the area, the theatre was named in his honour as the REM Lee Theatre.
As for hobbies, Ted, though a prairie boy had a passion for the sea and taught himself to sail. He later had a small cabin cruiser that he navigated to Kitimat from Vancouver and where the family enjoyed many Sunday afternoons on the Douglas Channel. Both Mom and Dad had a penchant for travel, visiting Europe, Asia and Africa and encouraged us to do the same.
After Ted retired from his medical practise in 1987, he and Thelma moved to Victoria. Ted worked as a medical consultant for the Worker’s Compensation Board for five years after which he retired for good. Both he and Thelma were avid Symphony goers and took in many other musical performances in Victoria and Vancouver.
Our Dad’s’ final year was spent in Parkwood Manor in Victoria where he received wonderful care and kindness. Our deepest thanks to all of the staff.
A Celebration of Ted’s life will take place in the Spring in Terrace BC. A private family ceremony will take place to scatter his ashes at sea.
When Ted retired from practise, the REM Lee Hospital Foundation was set up for improvements to and equipment for the Mills Memorial Hospital. If you wish, donations in his memory may be made to the Foundation or to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
