Frederick Thomas Coyle, aged 80, died peacefully at home in Victoria, BC on March 29, 2011. Fred was born on June 8th, 1930 in Charlottetown, PEI to Fred A. and Dorothy (Hogan) Coyle. Fred grew up in Charlottetown with his sisters, Frances, Barbara and Elizabeth and his brother, Leo. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, (Leo and Frances) and his first wife, Joanne Marilyn (Bovard). Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Monique (Poirier). Fred is also survived by his three children from his first marriage, Michael Coyle (Susan), Susan Plummer (Gordon), and Cynthia Coyle. Fred’s grandchildren are Carolyn Plummer (Lise), Lauren (Plummer) Wiley (Tim), Megan Plummer, and Conor Coyle. Fred attended Queen Square School in Charlottetown and went on to graduate from St. Dunstan’s University with his BA in 1952. He began his career at Maritime Central Airways in Goose Bay. Fred went on to complete his BCOMM. at St. Mary’s University in Halifax while raising a young family and working full time at Trans Canada Airlines (Air Canada). He transferred to Montreal in 1962 and after 37 years retired in 1991 as the Senior Director of Purchasing for Air Canada. Fred maintained a keen interest in aviation and was instrumental in the compilation of the history of Maritime Central Airways and the recognition of others in the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame. Fred’s retirement was spent in the City of Victoria where he and Monique enjoyed golfing at The Royal Colwood with their many friends. Fred also enjoyed his twice-weekly tennis matches with a regular group he helped organize. They played together for more than 20 years. He was happy to report that he won his very last mixed doubles set in February (6 – love) playing “ way over his head”. He likened his play that day to a light bulb burning ever so brightly just before it goes out. While living in Victoria, Fred supported the community with his volunteer contribution to the Commonwealth Games as the venue coordinator for cycling events. He was also the Race Director for the first International Triathlon in 2001. For twelve years Fred led an annual Christmas charitable fundraiser for the James Bay Community School. This work was very close to his heart. Until six weeks before his untimely illness, Fred was playing tennis, looking forward to his trip to PEI in July, visits with his children, grandchildren and to the birth of his first great grandchild. He will be greatly missed by all. Thank you to Victoria Hospice – QRT for their compassion and care during Fred’s illness.
A Celebration of His Life will be held at Fred’s great grandfather’s home (MP Hogan) in Charlottetown, mid-summer. The family requests donations to Victoria Hospice in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.
Thomas Earl Dunphy
March 28, 2011
August 13, 1946 – March 25, 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tom on Friday, March 25, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Corinne; son, Jason; two daughters, Tracy (Paul), Shawna (Chris) and four grandchildren, Brayden, Darby, Kessiah and Addison; brother, Jack (Margaret); sisters, Sharon (Jimmy), Cheryl (Dan), as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom was born in Calgary, Alberta and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary. While working with the Alberta Government as a social worker, he was transferred to Edmonton, where he and Corinne raised their three children. In 1991, Tom and Corinne opened Cinema Star Video in Victoria, BC. His excitement in this endeavor transferred to all those around him and it was rare if you walked in and didn’t hear his laugh. He loved and took great pride in the business until his retirement in 2008. Upon retirement, he began a new chapter in his life, travelling with his grandchildren. Disneyland and Maui were a couple of his favorites. He talked endlessly about seeing Ireland and he and Corinne were able to make it happen in 2010. Tom was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan. His smile and infectious laugh brought joy and happiness to all. It made him the loudest in the stands and the most excited at all events, from dance to hockey, soccer to rock gigs, he was always right up front. As the grandkids would say, “How is Jibby ever going to find her glasses?”

Kathleen Dorothy Mullin (nee Allen)
March 21, 2011
March 22nd 1916 to March 14th 2011
“Kitty” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 14th, 2011, eight days short of her 95th birthday.
Kitty was born in Bethnal Green, London, England and came to Canada at an early age. Kitty grew up in Montreal with her parents and two sisters. Her life centered on the church and her family, and it was in church, at her friends wedding, that she met Jack, her husband for 60 years. She worked for Bell Telephone until leaving to raise their son Alan and daughter Janice. Kitty later returned to the work force with Zeller’s Head Office in Montreal.
Jack and Kitty moved to Victoria in 1987, after retiring, where they enjoyed their new life in the Cook Street Village. It was there that they attended Christ Church Cathedral and made many new friends.
After Jack became ill and was placed in care, Kitty came to live with Janice and her husband Dave. St Michael and All Angels became her new neighbourhood church. Kitty marveled at how many new friends she would make again. She enjoyed her ACW and Women’s Guild meetings and loved to knit and contribute to outreach projects.
She also supported the SPCA and many other charities.
Kitty’s other passion was sports, especially hockey. She told stories of sitting up late listening to the Montreal Canadiens on the radio before games were televised. The Canadiens were her team, along with baseball’s Expos, until moving to Victoria, when she then supported the Canucks, as her new west coast team.
She had a joy for life and an interest to keep learning new things. She purchased a computer, and she and Jack, learned to email and send digital pictures to friends and relatives throughout England and Canada.
Those left to celebrate her life are son Alan (Linda), daughter Janice (Dave), grandsons Kory (Andrea) and Regan (Tannis), as well as many much loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Special thanks to her niece, Alison Logie, who came to assist the family with Kitty’s care over her final journey. Thank you also to Dr. Warnock, the Victoria Hospice Society, P.R.T. Home Care Nurses, and Beacon Support Staff.
Donations may be made to Victoria Hospice Society, 1952 Bay St., Victoria BC V8R 1J8 or St. Michael and All Angels Church, 4733 West Saanich Rd., Victoria BC V8Z 3G9.
A Funeral Service to be held Saturday March 26 at 3:30 pm at ST MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS CHURCH, 4733 West Saanich Road, Victoria BC.
