Patricia Doris Heald (nee Patsy Pitts)

June 22, 2010

August 29, 1924 – June 17, 2010

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear mother, Pat Heald. Mum was born in Victoria, the eldest daughter of Clarence and Doris Pitts. She spent her very early years in Ashcroft, BC where they lived, but later attended Norfolk House in Victoria and Strathcona Lodge School at Shawnigan Lake. For a short time Mum attended The Vancouver School of Art. She loved color and design and expressed her artistry in many different forms not least as a seamstress and in fact designed and made her wedding dress. In 1949 Patsy Pitts met Lieutenant Commander Joseph Frank Heald USN when his submarine was in Victoria. They knew each other for two weeks before they were engaged to be married. He returned to Hawaii but returned again to Victoria and they were married on November 12, 1949. They started their 24 years of adventure with United States Navy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and ended in Brussels, Belgium before they ‘retired’ in 1973 to North Saanich to live in the house that Doris and Clarence had built in 1950. Pat and Joe had many wonderful years together at Ardmore. They also continued to travel the world, when they were not busy in the garden or hosting wonderful Parties. Sadly, Joe died in 1996 leaving Mum on her own without her best friend and anchor of 47 years. They had 4 children, Loni Elizabeth, who died in Hawaii, Robin Elizabeth, Patricia Rebel and Scott Joseph Frank; grandchildren, Alexandra, Colin and Joseph.

A Funeral Service will be held in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. with a reception to follow in the McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA, 3150 Napier Lane, Victoria, BC, V8T 4V5 or the BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8R 6V5.
