Elizabeth, known to many as Betty, was born April 15, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario and lived much of her childhood in Parry Sound, Ont. She worked many years in banking and loved travelling by train. When relocating to Victoria by train in the early 1950’s, she met the love of her life; Hugh John Price (her “SP”) (deceased Nov 2007). They were married in 1954 and lived a full and exciting life mostly in Victoria. Predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Jane Baskerville and her only brother, Gordon (Doris) Baskerville of Peterborough; she is survived by her loving daughters, Jane (Eric) Kahler of Ottawa and Bonnie (Tony) Faganello of Victoria; granddaughter, Erin Kahler of Calgary; grandson, Bret Kahler of Trenton; granddaughter, Sonya Faganello of Victoria and great granddaughter, Jaelyn Stromberg of Colorado Springs. To those who knew her, that kind heart reached far. She enjoyed her music, love of finding the store that sold those winning lottery tickets, the best ice cream spots and adored the famous scenery and parks that Victoria offers. She was a steadfast family pillar and a very proud military wife to Hugh. We love you Mom and thank-you so much for all you did for us! As a Grandma you were the absolute best and were never without special treats. Many thanks to all her fellow residents and staff at Grafton Lodge. During her short illness she spoke of you often and we know she truly missed you all. He is survived by his wife Alice, daughter Kate and her husband William, daughter Jude and her husband Steve, son Pat and his wife Anne, and grandsons Adam and Evan. Paddy was an adventurer. After the war he served for two years with the Palestine Police, during which time he saw Israel become a nation. He then spent two years with the Malayan police, leading anti-terrorist patrols into the jungle. In 1951, Paddy and Alice married and moved to Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), where he worked as a copper miner. In 1954 they emigrated to Canada, deciding it was the place to be. George Burton Wallace
July 23, 2009
Born in Sandycove, County Dublin, Ireland June 7, 1920. Died in Victoria, BC July 17, 2009.
George is probably best remembered as a teacher and artist. Educated at St. Columba’s College, he went on to read philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin (1939-44). On leaving Ireland, he held temporary teaching posts at Radley and Eastbourne Colleges, married Margaret and continued his studies at the West of England College of Art, Bristol. For the next eight years, with a growing family, he taught at the Falmouth School of Art, Cornwall. In 1957 the family emigrated to Canada, where he taught at Ryerson, Toronto and Blakelock High School, Oakville, before moving to McMaster University, Hamilton. There, he was instrumental in developing the Fine Arts Department and in creating an art collection which now includes the Herman Levy bequest. His large, public, welded steel sculptures from that time reflect “The Steel City” and may be seen at McMaster University, Mohawk College, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Jewish Community Centre, the MacDonald Stewart Art Centre in Guelph; as well as in London at the Church of St. John the Divine and at the Halton County Court House. When George retired to Victoria in 1985, he explored one media after another: drawing, etching, painting, sculpting and making monotypes. He researched historical techniques and, an acknowledged expert in the history of printmaking and paper, he spent hours cataloguing the print collection at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. He has had 13 solo exhibitions in major galleries, including both the Art Galleries of Hamilton and Greater Victoria. In 2007, although suffering from Alzheimer’s, he continued to draw in St. Charles Manor Care Home. These last works will be on display at a celebration in remembrance of his life at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria on Sunday, August 9, from 2-4 pm.
George is mourned by his wife, Margaret, Kit (Patsy), Julia (Randy), Mark; and five grandchildren.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved husband of 71 years. His was a hard and busy life. As a young boy, Karl worked in the family slate mine. In 1938, he and I, Edel, met and married. During WW2 he served with the Alta Battalion in Narvik. In 1956, with our young family, we immigrated to Canada, Salt Spring Island. He was initially employed in the construction of both the Crofton Mill and later the new Lady Minto Hospital. On completion of these, he designed and built Park Drive Guest House which we operated for over 22 years and later converted to Solvang B & B. Upon retirement, we moved to Victoria. Karl was a wonderful husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather with a great sense of humor. He will be missed deeply by all his family and friends. No man was ever loved more! He was predeceased by two infant children in Norway and leaves behind to mourn, his wife, Edel; children, Erna (Ken), Solfrid, Ruth ( Derek), Henning, Kirsti (John); brother, Oddmund in Norway; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. My sincere thanks to Dr. Dennis Francis for his care and home visits, Pastor Al Dudiak and the wonderful, caring Hospice Palliative Response Team Nurses.
