Eric is at peace in the arms of the Lord. He fought a courageous battle with M.S.
He is beloved by his wife, Tanya; and stepchildren, Natasha and Vern; his daughters, Sabrina, Kimberly and Tracy; Eric’s sister, Ruth Spiritt and friend, Bob Elliott, Ruth’s son, Christopher; brother, Fred (Marjorie) Kuhn and son, Fred Jr.
Eric was predeceased by his parents, Fred Sr. and Elsie; and brother, Carl.
Special thanks to RCMP Padre Larry Greig; RCMP Veteran’s Assoc., the staff at Broadmead Lodge, Staff at VGH, Eric’s Physician Dr. R. Nicoll and the M.S. Society.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Parish, 2060 Haultain St. on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 12:10 p.m. A luncheon will follow at the Church Hall.
Donations if desired may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Grace Margaret Hill

June 29, 2009

Passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on June 29, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Born in Treherne, Manitoba in August 7, 1920 she was predeceased by her husband, John Ebenezer (Ben); brother, Bill; and sister, Muriel. Grace is lovingly remembered by her children, Loraine (David) Boyle, George (Sylvia) Hill, Joan (Jack) Haaksma and Shirley (Steve) Otterbein; grandchildren, Susan, Debbie (Greg), Kris (Kristi), Richard (Kathy), Diana (Darren), Chad, Tamara, Jeremy (Kailee), Stacey, Stephanie, Paul, Heidi, Zachary and Lockland; also ten great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Grace moved to Winnipeg at age 15 where she worked as a nanny, housekeeper and a hostess at Eatons (Guild Room). She met Ben at mutual friends and within a year married the love of her life for 50 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and will be sadly missed by family and friends – especially those friends at Luther Court.
A Celebration of Grace’s life will be held at Oaklands Chapel, 2736 Fernwood Rd., on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Phil Horton officiating. A reception will follow at the church. The interment will take place at Royal Oak Burial Park at 2:30 pm
Donations if desired, may be made to Camp Imadene or Victoria Hospice.

John Wilfred Pepper

June 27, 2009

John passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 24, 2009 in Victoria, B.C. at the age of 90 years. Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on January 17, 1919, he was predeceased by his daughter Connie Young (1998) and his sister Evelyn Lambert (2001). Lovingly remembered by Jean, his wife of 61 years, daughters and sons-in-law; Lois and Peter Mason, Susan and Graham Taylor, Mark Young (Karen) and eight grandchildren of whom he was so proud; Caitlin, David (Maren), Nathaniel and Ben Mason, Jonathan (Michelle), Jesse and Bryn Taylor and Max Young. Also survived by his brother Cliff Pepper (Myrna), sister Margaret King and many dear cousins, nephews and nieces. John was well known in the Cadboro Bay community as the co-founder of Pepper’s grocery store (then Shop-Easy and later renamed Pepper’s in his honour). John’s passion was music. He was an original member of the Victoria Symphony, an accomplished violinist and violist, an avid chamber musician and maker of many stringed instruments. His friends and family will forever remember his loving nature, generosity, sense of humour and joyful spirit. His family would like to acknowledge the kindness of Dr. Wayne DeMott and also the caring community at Shannon Oaks.

A Celebration of John’s life will take place at Cadboro Bay United Church, 2625 Arbutus Rd. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow at the church. Norah Olive Cook (nee Wadams)

Norah was born on May 5, 1930 in Victoria, BC. She passed away suddenly and peacefully on June 22, 2009 in Sidney, BC. Predeceased by her husband, Doug in 1977. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons; John (Annetta) and Peter; grandchildren, Doug, Erica and Brian; adopted grandchildren, Ashley, Tiffany, Harrison, Dustin, Michael, Emily and Brittany; brother, Hugh Wadams and extended family and many dear friends. She was a devoted member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Sidney and a long time member of The Quilters Guild. In her earlier years, she was actively involved in the Scouting movement.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Sidney, 9691 – Fourth Street on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow. Maria Da Conceicao Correia

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 23, 2009 at the age of 84. Maria da Conçeicăo Correia was born in Sao Miguel Acores, Portugal and has called Victoria home for the last 43 years. Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Mariano; Maria leaves behind her six children, Fatima (Teotonio) Lima, Grace (Norman) McCrimmon, Carmen (Armando) Furtado, Maria (William) Taylor, Siadalia (Chris) Whimbey and Tony (Shandra) Correia; nine grandchildren, Mario, Rose, Christopher, Carmen, Herb, Rachelle, Andrea, Antonio, Sephia and four great grandchildren, Alexander, Tye, Kayla and Matthew. Her love of baking and Portuguese cuisine was at the heart of our family gatherings. In her earlier years, she loved to visit her homeland and return with something for everyone. She loved to shop and found pleasure in finding her bargains. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered.

Prayers will be offered on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 6:00 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish on Monday, June 29th at 11:00 am. Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park with a reception to follow at the church hall.

Valerie E. Phillips (nee Gindper)

Our beloved mother passed away peacefully in Victoria on June 19 at the age of 82. Valerie was born in Shanghai on September 15, 1926 and came to Vancouver BC in 1949. While raising her family she also turned a love of costumes into a well-known costume business, where she made many friends. Valerie leaves behind her daughters, Dory (Rick) Allen, Audrey (Rob) Waldie; sons, Chris (Cathie), Doug, Terry (Vivian), Gerald (Brenda); grandchildren Angela (Graham), Melissa (Kosta), Jonathan, Cory (Katie), Matthew, Brandon, Jessie, Carly, Trevor, Jennifer, Levi, Zane, Kyle, Peggy and Patricia; great grandson Pavlo.

A Funeral Service will be held in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver St., Victoria, BC on Monday, June 29, 2009, at 1:00 pm., the Reverend Kostas Kaltsidis officiating.

Anastasia Lucille Webb

June 23, 2009

Passed away peacefully on June 23, 2009. Lucille was born in Victoria on August 26, 1911. She was one of 14 children. She is survived by her brother, Bill; sisters, May, Laura and Jean, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lucille worked for many years for the Provincial Government and upon retirement enjoyed travelling, art, literature, gardening and most of all, her beloved dogs.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 26, 2009. Light refreshments to follow in the church lounge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ho Missions, c/o St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain Street, Victoria, BC V8R 2L7.

Wing Ho Lui

Passed away unexpectedly but peacefully from Lymphoma on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Victoria, BC. Wing was born on August 9th, 1935 in Canton, China. Predeceased by his wife, Wai Fong in 1998; Wing is survived by his companion Lola; children, Barbara (Tim), Betty, Karen (Herbert), Sherwin (Janice), Ken (Jacqueline), Don (Rowena); his grandchildren, Sally, Christopher, Joyce, Elton, Windsor, Kalvin, Helena, Shenice, Brian, Chloe, Charmaine and Adrian. His death is a loss to all his family and friends, but his love, determination and laughter will always be remembered.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Amar Kaur Gill (nee Johl)

February 2, 1934 – June 18, 2009

Amar passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Amar was born in the Village of Jundiala District of Jullandar, Punjab, India and has resided in Victoria for over fifty years. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty four years, Sardul S. Gill, daughter Amir K. Gill and sons, Kevin S. Gill, Robin S, Gill and Stephen S. Gill. She is also survived by her brother Umrao S. Johl and sister Bakhshish K. Kang. Amar was predeceased by her brother Bakhshish S. Johl. Amar was a loving mother and wife and was very involved with her family, her church and community affairs. She was very active in physical activities such as yoga, swimming and her daily walks. She loved to travel and did travel the world with her family and friends. Regardless of the situation, she always put other peoples’ needs ahead of her own. She was generous with her time and affections and enjoyed her busy life. Amar’s home was always open to family and her many life-long friends. The family would like to thank Dr’s. McLean and Chow and their supportive staff.

A Memorial Service will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & and Vancouver Streets on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, there will be a church service held at the Sikh Temple, Topaz and Blackwood Streets. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation will be greatly appreciated.

Mona Gabriel Macgillivray (nee Walsh)

December 16, 1921 to June 17, 2009

Mona Macgillivray passed away peacefully in Victoria, at the age of 87 years. Born in Calgary on December 16, 1921 to parents, Letty and Joseph Walsh, Mona lived in Vancouver and Victoria. She was an alumna of Little Flower Academy and St. Ann’s Academy and maintained a strong connection to the Sisters of St. Ann throughout her life. Our Mum was a kind and gracious lady, a blessing to her family and friends. She was a lifelong supporter of the Catholic Church and C.W.L. Mona received a medal from the Diocese of Victoria for her lifelong dedication which included over forty years of creating magnificent flower arrangements at St. Patrick’s Church. To her extended family, Mona, a.k.a. “Papa,” was famous for her unstinting love, understanding and humour, as well as her endless supply of shortbread, fudge, orange jelly and lemon meringue pies. To the Macgillivray’s across Canada she was known as the “Aunty with the Hats” and the contributor of wickedly funny song lyrics. Mona was predeceased by her sister, Patricia and husband, Allan. She is dearly missed by her children, Letty Simpson, David (Linda), Paddy Robertson (Stewart) and Moira Gill (Michael); eight grandchildren and her nine treasured great-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her cousins in Ireland and her many cherished lifelong friends. Special gratitude goes to Fr. Ian Stuart for his spiritual care in her last days. Our great thanks and appreciation go to the staff at Selkirk Place for their love and care.
