SCOTT, Clara Jean (nee Amos) Born in Dauphin, Manitoba September 14, 1918. Died in Victoria, B.C. on May 22, 2009. Predeceased by her beloved husband Clayton in 1999. She will be greatly missed by her family Ray (Carol), William (Pat), and Lee; grandchildren, Bradley (Tammy), Rodney (Claire), Darren (Maria), Jeffrey (Sarah), Kevin (Kate); great grandchildren, Kenny, Connor, Alex, Natalie, Robert, Jordan, Andrew, Madison and Sydney. Clara grew up in Dauphin and Winnipeg. She was an avid reader and loved poetry which led her to compose many of her own poems. Clara and Clayton moved to Victoria in 1965. Here she developed an interest in wood carving and spent many hours at the Oak Bay Monterey Centre, as well as volunteering at the Royal Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. In 2006, Clara moved to The Wellesley where her many friends will miss her. A special Thank You to the staff at The Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals, particularly Dr. Jenkins and nurses at the Geriatric Rehabilitation Centre, who respected her wishes on passing. At Clara’s request, no service will be held. Flowers gratefully declined. Letoslawa “Litka” Korbut

“Mrs Korbut” passed away at Victoria Hospice on Monday, May 18, 2009.
She was predeceased by her husband Cheslaw ; her parents Jozef and Kazimiera Ratajski; her siblings Wanda, Milosz, Zbigniew and Danuta. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and John Pigott; her granddaughters Victoria MacAulay (Jim), Maureen Pigott, Claire Pigott (John); her great-grandchildren Vanessa, Hannah and Adam MacAulay, Emily and Liam Carey, Evelyn and Paolo Kokkinos; her nieces in Ontario, Mary Murray and Margie Miller; nephew Grzegorz Ratajski and niece Ewa Szewczyk in Poland and their families.
Born in Tarnopol, Poland and trained as a teacher, she was a member of the Polish Resistance during WWll while her husband served with the Polish Air Force in England. They immigrated to Canada in 1948 and lived in Hamilton, Ont. Litka moved to Victoria after her husband’s death. A strong and loyal Catholic, her devotional poems were an inspiration to many and her handcrafts, especially her crocheted toques, supported several charities.
A private family funeral has taken place, with Monsignor Michael Lapierre and Fr. Sean Flynn celebrating the Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Burial took place at Royal Oak Burial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to Victoria Hospice Foundation, 1510 Fort St, Victoria, B.C. V8S 5J2.
Heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped Litka to live independently all these years and especially to those who provided her with such compassionate care on her last journey.

With sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Asaad Haskour, beloved husband of 27 years to Angelina. Born in Aleppo, Syria, Asaad came to Canada in 1972 where he worked as a skilled upholsterer for 20 years. After retiring in 1992 due to health reasons he spent his time travelling with his wife and especially enjoyed cruising. He often visited back home (Syria) where he was predeceased by his parents and three brothers. There he will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Antoinette, Gorgette, Weedad and many nieces and nephews. Here at home (Victoria) he will be missed by his youngest sister Yvette (Michel) his nephews, Allan and Fadi and his niece, Paula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral Parish, Blanshard and View Streets at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
Adrian Lawrence Greenbank

Adrian was born in Southport, England but he has called Canada home for a number of decades. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving wife and family on May 21, 2009. Adrian was the only child of the late Lawrence and Bertha Greenbank. He was a talented artist, teacher and businessman. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Sandra; sons, Bradley (Diane) and Peter (Shana); daughters, Hartley and Vanessa and grandchildren, Alexandra, Cameron and Megan. It is with great sadness that the family of Jose De Sales Moniz announces his passing. Jose passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday May 19th 2009.
Jose will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Angelina, 4 Daughters, Anna, Lucia (Roy) , Nelia (Gord) , Fatima (Paul), 3 Grandchildren, Brandon, Desiree, Justine 1 brother, 4 sisters and a large extended family. Born in Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on January 29, 1930. Jose immigrated from Portugal 53 years ago and spent 38 years of his life as a gardener at the Butchart Gardens. Retirement saw him enjoying his mini Butchart Gardens at home in North Saanich. Jose will be forever missed by family and friends.
Prayers will be offered at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish on Saturday, May 23rd at 11:00 am by Father M. Cardoso. Reception to follow at Our Lady of Fatima Hall.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Horner on May 15, 2009 at Vernon Hospice House. Gloria will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her
husband Robert (Bob) of 55 years, son Ian, daughter Wendy (James), granddaughter Jamie, brother Bill Gow, sister Dawn Lovelle, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Gloria was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Garry. She graduated from Winnipeg Children’s Hospital with a degree in nursing and went to work as a stewardess for Trans Canada Airlines where she met Bob, and Ward Air after their marriage. Gloria will be remembered for her kind and helpful nature and her love of travel. Gloria’s worldwide adventures include her intrepid sailing endeavours throughout the B.C. coast, Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands. Gloria has been active in two amateur radio clubs in the Victoria area under the call sign VE7 DAD. For the past 25 years, she has been a volunteer driver for the B.C. Cancer Agency and also enjoyed teaching
Mahjong at the Monterey Community Centre.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on June 3, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson at Vancouver Street, Victoria, BC. Passed away peacefully in her 88th year in the presence of her family. Gerri was predeceased by her husband, Howard; daughter, Marcia and granddaughter, Calypso. Lovingly known as G.G. to her family, she leaves her children, Maralee, Michele (David) and Marc (Daisy); granddaughters, Kristen and Kyrie and the special joys of her life, great granddaughters, Gabriela and Olivia. Mom has asked us to thank her friends for always being so kind to her.

Passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the age of 63 on the Island of Santa Maria Açores. She has resided in Victoria, BC for 16 years. Predeceased by her first husband, Antonio Paiva; her parents, Vitorino and Virginia Moura and her sister, Maria Sousa. Fernanda will be dearly missed by her husband, Manuel Figueiredo. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan Paiva, Nancy Sorensen (Rene); her son, Jimmy (Jenny); stepdaughters, Teresa, Grace Aura and Carman. She will be missed by her three grandchildren, Jacob, Maya and Joshua, as well as her step-granddaughters, Cyrena and Gabriella. Sister to Ermelinda Pereira and Emily Reis, Alhandrina Figueiredo; her brothers, John Moura and Tony Moura and their families.
