Betty Imogen Scuby

April 22, 2009

June 25, 1918 to April 21, 2009

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our precious wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Betty Imogen Scuby (nee Ellison). Known as ‘Nana’ to family and friends alike, with much dignity she passed away peacefully in her sleep, at home in her own bed, on Tuesday, 21 April, 2009, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born and raised in Capilano, North Vancouver, she met the love of her life Bill, in Prince Rupert in the ’40′s. They spent their early years in Prince Rupert, moving with sons John and Joe to Victoria in 1962. She was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener, loving and attentive mother and brilliant grandmother. She was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary at St. Luke’s Church and a most hospitable hostess. She was a caring woman who loved children of all ages and animals, particularly the two St. Bernards she helped raise.
Nana was a most gentle woman and true lady with a caring heart. She loved life and was thankful for all that it provided. She was impressed by the simple wonders of nature, kindness, truth and most importantly good manners and politeness. She lived by this code and insisted her family did as well. She did not suffer fools gladly nor people who mistreated others.
We will all miss her playfulness, wicked sense of humour, her compassion for all forms of life and her beautiful voice when she broke into song. She was one in a million and will be missed by all.
Nana was predeceased by her sister Molly in 1973. She will be sorely missed by her husband Bill, sons John and Joe (Louise), granddaughter Tara (Paul), grandsons Gregory, Joshua and Matthew (Kathleen), and great grandson Charlie.
Our family wishes to thank Nana’s caregivers and the Victoria Hospice staff for their efforts during her illness. They worked tirelessly to ensure Nana received the best of care and that she was able to maintain her dignity throughout.
Arrangements have been made through McCall’s Funeral Home, Victoria.

There will be a Church Service at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 1973 Cultra Ave., Saanichton, on Monday, 27 April, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at nearby St. Stephen’s Anglican Cemetery, 7921 St. Stephen’s Rd., Saanichton.
In lieu of flowers we invite donations to the Victoria Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
