Clara Irene “Renie” Wilson

Clara Irene (Renie) Wilson
Mom was born near Brierley Hill in England on January 7, 1916, and passed away peacefully at home in Sidney on January 28, 2009. Renie’s fate was sealed when she met Alec while visiting her Aunt in Birmingham. Alec was visiting his Uncle who boarded there. Upon meeting Mom, Dad immediately declared that he had met the woman he was going to marry. Although Dad returned to duty in Italy and Mom went back to work at the Goodyear factory they managed to marry during a furlough. At the end of the war they immigrated to Regina, where their first son was born. Mom and Dad eventually settled in Nanaimo where their remaining three children were born. She raised her family, living at the same house on Machleary Street for thirty-three years until a fire destroyed the home in 1983. Soon after, she moved to Victoria and lived with Rose and Rick until her passing.
Mom was predeceased in 1975 by her husband, Alec, and shortly after, by her only brother Howard. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her sons Ian (Joann) and Mal (Sue) and her daughters Heather Murcheson (Jim) and Rose Patterson (Rick). Mom is also survived by eleven grandchildren (Sean, Reid, Bethany, and their mother Jane; Carrie-Anne, Michael, and Stephen; Kim, Brent, and Karen; Caitlin and Matthew) and three great-grandchildren ( Jack, Alex, and Brody) and several nieces and nephews.
Rose and her family unselfishly cared for Mom in her later years, especially when her health declined. Granny will be especially missed by grandchildren Caitlin and Matthew, who lived with her their entire lives.
Renie was a gentle and kind woman who was loyal to family and friends. She enjoyed knitting, crosswords and reading. She was witty, patient and resourceful, making many sacrifices to provide a warm and loving home through challenging times. Mom taught us the value of honesty, hard work and perseverance. She had a fondness for flowers and sunshine, fish and chips and sweets. She was truly loved and leaves us with many rich memories.

Anna Pellizzaro
January 29, 2009
Passed away on January 27, 2009 in Edmonton while surrounded by her family. She was born on July 26, 1929 in Selva di Trissino, Italy. She strived through difficult times during the war in Northern Italy and acquired a great strength that she carried throughout her whole life. She first met her husband, Silvio, on the front steps of the town hall in Trissino. They were later married in 1949. Anna immigrated to Canada in 1957 to create a wonderful new life in Victoria, BC for herself and her family. She spent many years working outside the home at the Glenshiel and was loved by many there. At home, she took pride in her garden and its abundance of fruits and vegetables. We will all miss her exceptional skills of preparing traditional Italian meals. Anna loved socializing with family and friends, playing cards, knitting and spent most of her retirement dedicated to lovingly caring for her husband. She taught her children and grandchildren great lessons of love; to have strength and endurance through all times. Anna was predeceased by her husband, Silvio in 2003 and is survived by her three children, Irma (Gerald), Rosetta (Dave) and Joe (Patti). She has eight grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Adrian, Lisa, Monica, Sergio, Hollie, Samantha, Marco and Alexandra. She also has four great-grandchildren, Emilie, Naomi, Ariana and Jacob. Surviving brothers and sisters in Italy are Teresina (Berto), Gianni (Rosetta) and Giulietta (Franco). Anna will be sadly missed by her family and friends who will lovingly remember her always. Marg was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack; parents John and Lucy Francis; brothers Lloyd, Manley and Tom; sister-in-law Peggy Francis; brother-in-law Dick Bridgeman and his wife, Joey; as well as other Bridgeman siblings, nieces and nephews. Marg is survived by her brother Phil Francis and his wife, Jean, of Battleford, Sask; nieces Linda Dustan Selinger (Patrick) of Brandon, Man., and Marilyn Francis (Detlef Friedrich) of Berlin, Germany; great-nieces Leanne Dustan of Gatineau, Que., Lori Dustan Lafond (Darrell) and their daughters Ayla and Riley of Winnipeg, Man., and Lisa Dustan of Montreal, Que.; cousin Teddy Warrick and his wife, Jan, of Summerset, Bath, England. Born and raised on Norton Farm in the Cleveland/Lindequist district west of Battleford, Saskatchewan, Marg later trained as a nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Sask. After graduation she worked at the Royal Vic for a time before returning home to care for her family, combining that with nursing work in the Battlefords — privately and at the local hospital. In 1946 she accepted the position of Matron at the hospital in Turtleford, Sask. One of the first people she met in Turtleford was Jack Bridgeman, a local businessman. They married on September 15, 1947.
In early 1956 Marg and Jack “retired” to British Columbia and after a few months in Vancouver, happily settled in Victoria. Marg continued her nursing career — first at St. Joseph’s Hospital, then Victoria General, from which she retired in 1973. Jack worked as a Commissionaire at Rocky Point until a few years before his death on June 1, 1968.
Marg had a great many friends and maintained a huge written correspondence throughout Canada and abroad. She loved Victoria and Vancouver Island — truly thought of it as paradise. She enjoyed taking a daily walk through Cook Street Village and meeting and greeting people. For many years Marg was a faithful member of St.Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church, Royal Oak. Over the years she enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and watching sports, especially curling and football (particularly the Saskatchewan Roughriders!) She will always be remembered as a loving sister and aunt, a good neighbour, a kind and thoughtful friend.
Heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers and staff on Chandler Unit at Glengarry Hospital. Thank you and much love to those who visited and cared for Marg, especially during the last few months, among them Dave and Sue, Linda McNayr and Kelby McNayr, Audrey Suttie, Wayne and Donna Watson, Bernice Charters. To you and to others not particularly mentioned here, your friendship was a precious thing to Marg and you held a special place in her heart.
