Having faced her brief and sudden illness with dignity and grace, Florence Dora Elliott (nee Oliver) aged 84 of Victoria B.C. died ever so peacefully Dec 19, 2007 in the Victoria Hospice.
Florence is predeceased by her parents Frederick Oliver (1962) Mabel Connelly (1953) and sisters Joyce Oliver (1929) and Carol Girard (1975).
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Russell Dean Elliott and daughter Joyce Elliott both of Victoria; son Dean Elliott and wife Cheryl; granddaughter Cherie Elliott and husband John Hager and 4 wonderful great grandchildren all of Brantford Ontario and nephewPhil Girard and wife Lisa of Victoria, BC.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Florence helped raise her family in Downsview and StreetsvilleOntario before returning to Ottawa with her husband in 1977 and then moving to Victoria in 1994.
She will be lovingly remembered for her courage and conviction, her keen sense of humour, her love of nature and her unfailing generosity.
Our family’s heart felt thanks to Dr. Nehra her family physician, The Community Health Team and to the many doctors and nurses of all the Victoria hospitals who helped improve Mom’s quality of life in her last months.
A very special thank you to all at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their excellent care earlier this fall and those nurses and doctors who cared for her so lovingly at Victoria Hospice in her final days.
Our family is also grateful for the prayer support of her many friends, Rev. Larry Scott and her two angel friends Vicki and Mavis who were by her side with daughter Joyce in Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held at James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan St., Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 3 pm.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation, 2166 Mt. Newton X Road, Saanichton BC, V8M 2B2,

Gary, was born as Bruce Gary Newlands and was the youngest son born to Bruce and Norma Newlands, He was adopted by his stepfather, Frank Allan upon his marriage to Norma Bernice Newlands when Gary was six years old.

SMITH, James Gordon (Gordie) – Passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on Sunday, December 16, 2007. Born in Victoria on December 31, 1918, he was predeceased by his wife, Irene, parents, sisters and brothers. Lovingly remembered by his six sons, Don (Bev), Lawrie (Jacki), Ray (Sue), Dale (Wendy), Glyn (Cindy) and Bruce (Sheri); his daughter, Penny (George) Bridges; seventeen grandchildren, six great grandchildren; his sister, Hilda (Ed) Lock; and cousin, Fran (Don) Mills. He was a long-term employee of Eaton’s of Canada, where he made many friends.

A service to celebrate Gordie’s life will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Graham and Torrey McCall Family Centre.

TOKARYK, Sonia Marianne passed away at the Lady Minto Hospital, Salt Spring Island on December 10, 2007. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marlyn (George) Freibergs; and her sisters, Lillian and Sylvia (Carl).
Born on July 5, 1916 in Witkow, Saskatchewan, Sonia moved to Ottawa in 1941 and relocated to Salt Spring Island in the 1990s.
Prayers will be offered in McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 7:00 pm
A Funeral Service will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
