Catherine Hossack Showers

Catherine Hossack Showers
With sadness, we announce the passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother in her 103rd year. Catherine was a graduate of the Royal Jubilee School of Nursing. She was supervisor of the Operating Room for five years but in the 1930s a woman was unable to work if married. Luckily for us, she chose love over nursing and married Emerson in 1934. She was a member of the Monterey Senior Centre and particularly enjoyed the craft group where, at the age of 102, she still crocheted items for the gift shop. Until February, she lived in her own condo, shopped, cleaned and always expressed interest in the activities of her family and friends. She was a long time parishioner of Oak Bay United Church and a life member of the United Church Women. Her husband Emerson, sister Ina and brother Charlie predeceased her. Left with loving memories of Catherine are her children Bob (Pat) and Jack (Roz); her grandchildren Jack (Sondra), Don (Allison), David Showers, Stephanie (Jovo) Bikic and her great grandchildren Marc, Eric Showers and Tiana Bikic. We are extremely grateful for the exceptional care shown Catherine by the staff of Glengarry, Dr. Pai and staff of 7C (Victoria General) and Dr. Yue, family physician.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Saturday, June 2 at10:30 a.m. A reception will follow in the Graham & Torrey McCall Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or Oak Bay United Church building.
