Sonia (nee Sinko) Bubna

November 30, 2006

Peacefully passed away on November 22, 2006 in the James Bay Care Center at the age of 86 years. Born August 22, 1918 in West Ukraine, she was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 1989. Sonia is survived by her son, Roman and his wife, Sonia, in Ukraine.

Quick of wit and strong of character, Sonia was truly a very special person to all that knew her. An only child, Sonia lost her first husband during World War II. As hard working immigrants Sonia and her second husband Daniel successfully established a small grocery store and later a hotel near Winnipeg. Moving to Victoria for “retirement” in 1972, they bought several revenue properties here including a small motel in Saanichton. Sonia and Daniel were snow birds who especially enjoyed Mexico and Hawaii. Her joys in life included gardening, lively dancing, but most of all dedication to the church. She was a generous supporter of the St. Nicholas Church and was member of the Ukrainian organization the Trident Seniors. We all miss you Sonia.

Prayers will be offered in St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1112 Caledonia Avenue on Monday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Father Edward Kwiatkowski in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, on Tuesday, December 5th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. Donations in Sonia’s memory may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1112 Caledonia Avenue, Victoria, B.C. V8T 1G1 and would be greatly appreciated.
