Vera (nee Punter) Pedlow
December 27, 2005
Born April 29, 1914 in Luton, England and passed away suddenly but peacefully at home in Sidney on December 24, 2005.
Vera moved to Vancouver with her family in 1929. She worked at Spencer’s until1943 when she joined the RCAF and was posted overseas in 1944 and was in London during the blitz. She remained in Europe following the war working at UNRRA headquarters in Germany until 1947 when she returned to Britain. She met and married Jack in Belfast in 1949. They returned to Canada in 1951 and eventually settled in Sidney in 1956. It was here that Vera became an active member of the community and her church where she sang with the Choir (and almost anywhere else she was requested), and was a long-serving member of the Altar Guild. Vera also shared her gift and love of music with many young Sidney piano students. She delighted in seeing her grandchildren involved in music, especially with the music ministry at St. Mary’s Church.
Vera is survived by Jack, her devoted and loving husband of 56 years; her son Ken (Leslie) and her beloved grandchildren Lindsay, Daniel and Michael. She will also be sadly missed by her niece, Pat (Larry) Issacson; Lilia (Eric) Peterson; dear friend Ursula Thomas and all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the music ministry of either St. Andrew’s Church in Sidney or St. Mary’s Church in Saanichton.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 9691 Fourth Street, Sidney, on Tuesday, January 3rd at 1:00 p.m., the Rev. Canon Richard Root officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.
