NICHOLSON, Edward – A Veteran of WWII, Edward, in his 93rd year, passed away quietly at his home following a bout of pneumonia on May 25, 2005. Predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Grace (nee Isherwood) in March 2004, he is survived by his sister, Jean Denney of Nanaimo, BC; four nieces, three nephews and many great nieces and nephews.



Funeral Service will be held at McCALL’S SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL, 4665 Falaise Dr., on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Following the interment at Royal Oak Burial Park, a reception will take place at Sequoia Gardens Memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

ABBOTT, Douglas Royle Peacefully at Victoria Hospice, Friday, May 20th, in his 89th year. A proud Newfoundlander by birth, a Torontonian for 34 and a Victorian for 50 years, Doug embraced the Victoria community with executive service on the boards of the Symphony, Musical Arts Society, Parking Commission, Chamber of Commerce, YMYWCA, J.R. Pearkes Clinic, CNIB, Christ Church Cathedral; he was a driving force in the move of the University of Victoria to the Gordon Head Campus. For 22 years he was Victoria Branch Manager of Canada Trust, subsequently an Investment Counsellor for RBC Dominion Securities. For over 45 years Doug was an active member of the Union Club (B.C.) and Victoria Golf Club. His Toronto life reflects a singing career with late wife Margaret in Mendelssohn Choir and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Three musician-children; Norman, Vivienne, Jocelyn, son-in-law Rudolf Lenhart, grandson Doug, two great-grandchildren, the extended Abbott family in greater Toronto/Niagara area, St. John’s (NFLD), Williamsburg (VA) and Naples (FL) and a network of close friends and caregivers all celebrate his radiant life.



A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, followed by a reception at the Victoria Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are welcome either to the Margaret Abbott Scholarship Fund, Victoria Conservatory of Music, 907 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8V 3P4, or Victoria Hospice, 1900 Fort Street, Victoria, BC, V8R 1J8.
